Immigrating to Canada as an international student is one of the most exciting and life-changing decisions anyone can make. According to erudera.com<\/a> Close to 70 percent of students choose Canada as their study destination because of the quality education it offered. I will be sharing some useful information based on my experience and research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Study Plans<\/strong> as an international Students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Benjamin Franklin said, \u201cif you fail to plan, you are planning to fail\u201d. This also applies to immigrating to Canada as an international student. You need a good plan to succeed. First, you must decide on the program you want to study. Your study path must be in line with your previous education or experience. This is very important because it is part of the determining factors for visa approval. Secondly, decide if you want to go to a university or college and the duration of the program. Next, ensure that the university or college is a designated learning institution (DLI). A designated learning institution is a school approved by a provincial or territorial government to host international students. Also, you need to graduate from a designated learning institution to be eligible for a post-graduate work permit (PGWP). I will discuss that in another post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding <\/strong>for International Students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the top challenges that many international students face is funding. Tuition fees are generally lower in Canada compared to other top study-abroad destinations like the UK and US. It can still be a hitch if you don’t plan and save adequately. However, there are several funding opportunities that you can take advantage of. Funding from your home country or in Canada and particularly from the institution you are planning to study at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparations<\/strong> before immigrating to Canada as international students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Coming to Canada to continue your education can be challenging as you are leaving the known for the unknown. If you plan to come to Canada to study you need to be prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are a few things you should take note of before coming to Canada as an international student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canada is cold<\/strong>. Many international students underestimate how cold it can get in Canada. It is always a huge shock when they experience it. Ensure you prepare for it. The summer months are also very warm and beautiful. You will love it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collaborative environment<\/strong> for international students<\/strong> One of the things you will learn as an international student in Canada is the importance of teamwork. In most of your classes, you will discover that you need to work as a team to complete projects. This will impact your final grade at the end of the program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working and studying as an international student.<\/strong> International students are allowed to work more than 20 hours a week off campus. However, the amount of money made from these jobs might not be sufficient to pay for your tuition and accommodation. Make sure you have enough funds to support your tuition and living expenses so you don’t become stranded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undertaking an international education in a multicultural country like Canada is one of the best decisions you can take. It allows you to explore and develop aspects of your life you never thought existed. Take advantage of your opportunity and begin the journey of becoming a future Canadian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
